Special Events and Adult Education Programming Internship at Smithsonian Associates

Interns with Smithsonian Associates are offered unique opportunities to learn about all aspects of educational programming for both adults and children, while contributing extensively to one of the world's great cultural institutions. Intern Duties: Promotional and programmatic support for the large scale public events, with a special focus on after-hours, Smithsonian-wide programs for young professionals.

Summer Undergraduate Internship at the National Museum of Asian Art

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art (NMAA), invites applications for a full-time (40 hrs/wk) paid opportunity designed for students with little to no previous museum experience. The program introduces interns to museum work as they concentrate on one assigned department compatible with their interests or career goals. Specific departments will be determined at the time of selection. See the function areas below for potential placements. NMAA's internship program seeks talented individuals of all backgrounds.

To honor the achievements of DC Public high school graduate and Smithsonian Regent, Robert P. Kogod, the Smithsonian is accepting applications for an internship program named in his honor.  This internship is for District of Columbia public high school students entering their junior or senior year or finishing their senior year. The internship is awarded to a student interested in the arts. Awarded students spend eight (8) weeks with their mentors in and around the Smithsonian facilities in the Washington DC area.

Education and Visitor Services Internships at the National Postal Museum

National Postal Museum

The National Postal Museum looks at American history through the unique lens of mail and communication, adding new and unexpected insights to those stories. This project based internship takes place within the joint Education and Visitor Services department, which interprets and makes accessible our museum content and works to improve the visitor experience in a variety of ways. The projects can vary widely each season, but follow that same core values of interpreting content and connecting it to museum visitors, online and in person.

Smithsonian American Art Museum has two internship programs: 1.) The Advanced Level Program:  a two-semester (fall/spring) museum operations program for graduate students, exceptional college seniors and individuals with a four-year college degree, with previous museum or art institution experience. All participants receive stipends.
